Thanks to its fine weather and natural beauty, Mallorca is one of the favourite venues for artists from all over the world. Thus each season the auditoriums and theatres on the island host an exclusive programme with the best in stage arts of the present international scene. The latest theatre productions and the top figures of music and dance come to Mallorca, which has a first-class entertainment offer throughout the year.

Mallorca can take pride in being one of the places with the largest number of musical festival by surface area. This is the result of the great musical tradition of the island and especially of the large number of mostly European and American musicians who have settled in Mallorca.
The festivals take place in different towns and cities of the island throughout the year, even though most of them are held in the spring and summer. Some of the festivals devoted to classical music are the Pollença Festival, Deià Music Festival, Valldemossa’s Chopin Festival and Antoni Lliteres Classical Music Festival. Alcúdia Jazz Festival, Festival Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla and Jazz Voyeur Festival are devoted to jazz and Ping! and the eclectic Alternatilla Festival to independent and alternative music.
As well as festivals, the large number of cycles and events contribute to a top-quality musical scene. We should mention the outstanding choir concert that takes place every July in Torrent de Pareis, a place of exceptional beauty. It has been declared Natural Monument.
The Balearic Symphony Orchestra is the principal orchestra in the Balearics. It organizes an intense programme throughout the year including a concert season and the concerts of the Bellver Music Festival in July. These events often feature internationally renowned guest conductors and soloists. Some of the best companies take part every year in the opera and zarzuela seasons.
The same goes for the ballet season with a programme characterized by the combination of classical ballet, Spanish dance and contemporary dance. Dansamàniga is a dance festival that takes place in Cala Millor in August and December. Small and medium size companies present their latest productions to the audience.
The International Puppet Theatre Festival is one of the fauvorite events among children. It takes place in Palma and other towns of the island in May. The festival features companies and artists from all over the world. They present interesting proposals within the field of puppetry.
In September Manacor becomes for a few days the epicentre of theatrical activity with the celebration of the Theatre Fair. It brings together around 30 local, national and international companies and there is an average of four or five productions per day. It is indeed an authentic theatrical marathon.
The Sóller International Folk Festival is an outstanding event that takes place in July. It features dance groups from all over the world. The host group ‘Aires Sollerics’ performs the “ball de bot”, the typical Mallorcan dance.
In parallel with these events, concert halls, auditoriums and theatres offer an intense quality programme with shows and concerts throughout the year. The listings feature premieres by local, national and international companies, as well as renowned artists from all genres that arrive to the island with their latest work. In towns such as Palma, Alcúdia, Cala Millor, Artà, sa Pobla, Manacor, Calvià or Lloseta, among others, you will find modern theatres with very active programmes. They present a wide variety of stage proposals.
In addition, programmes such as “A Winter in Mallorca” bring music and theatre to all the corners of the island between October and April with free performances. In summer the activity becomes more intense and concerts are organized in many parts of the island featuring the top bands and soloists of the moment. These performances often coincide with the Patron Saint’s festivals.
On the other hand, enthusiasts of new trends, ranging from electronic music to “nu jazz”, will be delighted to know that some of the top DJs in the world often come to island.
