Young people want to have fun with their friends and even more so during their school trips. On the other hand, the priority for parents and teachers is that they stay safe while still having fun. This is the reason why for decades Mallorca has been, and still is, a top destination for school trips and groups of young people enjoying their first holidays without their parents. The island offers sun-drenched, clean and safe beaches and an internationally renowned day and night leisure offer. Clubs are located in the same area so there is no need to use the car at night. Additionally, Mallorca provides a dynamic cultural offer that is a perfect complement for young people on holidays. All in all, the island is a destination that is safe, near and easy to manage. It has an excellent health infrastructure to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances.
What can young people do in Mallorca? Sea-based activities, boat trips, parasailing, windsurfing, volleyball, trips to water parks, visits to the aquarium and safaris. They can also rent bicycles and follow well signposted routes and the fitter walkers can go on tailored mountain walks. They can also visit a Roman theatre, a prehistoric Talaiot or Bellver Castle, one of the few medieval castles with a circular ground plan… because culture can also be part of the adventure.
There is a variety of places to eat with regards to the number of restaurants, the type of cuisine and prices. Everybody can eat according to their budget.
The way senior citizens travel today has nothing to do with how they used to do it a few decades ago. Senior tourism is becoming increasingly more dynamic and senior citizens are not satisfied with just sitting by the sea. They have other interests and above all they want to have fun at their own pace and enjoy themselves. In this respect, Mallorca is the ideal place for its tranquility, good weather and activities for all tastes and ages.
Mallorca makes you want to walk. By the sea, on long promenades that have been built for that purpose; discovering small squares in picturesque towns; on easy nature trails; visiting some of the many traditional fairs, such as the ones devoted to “llampuga” (dolphin fish), pottery, oil, “sobrassada” (pork sausage), etc. You can visit museums or monuments of the significance of Bellver Castle or the incredible Palma Cathedral by the sea.
In summer there is a full programme of cultural and leisure activities after sunset, yet there are plenty of events taking place throughout the rest of the year: free classical music concerts as part of the “Un invierno en Mallorca” programme, classical and folk dance, jazz music festivals, opera season, theatre plays…
Public transport provides the opportunity to go on a number of walks in a group through the city using the tourist bus to visit the main monuments of Palma. There is also a tourist taxi service that specializes in tailored itineraries, which are more comfortable.
For trips outside the city, we suggest that you take the old Sóller train, which is made of wood. It takes you through beautiful landscapes before arriving to Sóller. This town in the Tramuntana mountains is well-known for its oranges and its welcoming atmosphere. From there you can easily take the tram to Puerto de Sóller where you can spend the rest of the day.
Transport, museum and beach accessibility are some of the accessibility policies of the local government. Not for nothing you will find many access ramps to the sea in many beaches, amphibious chairs and accessible showers and toilets. For specific disabilities, certain tour operators offer travel packages including hotels, restaurants and activities that guarantee accessibility according to client’s mobility. Moreover, other tour operators offer activities in clubs so that senior visitors can get to know each other and share activities. One of these social clubs offers aqua gym lessons, classic cinema, walks, internet courses for beginners, brain puzzles and dancing for senior citizens.
After years of hard work and responsibility, one realizes that the most important thing is time well spent. An taking a break with friends in a Mediterranean island can be just that. Above all if there are no complications and there is plenty of leisure options. This means good flight connections, a short flight, being able to choose the hotel according to taste, price and booking simplicity and the best restaurant near a peaceful beach… needless to say, Mallorca offers all this.
The pleasure of spoiling yourself for few days at a mineral springs spa where you can walk on long peaceful beaches in between treatments. The exercise of the week could be a walk on the Archduke Louis Salvator Trail in the Tramuntana mountains. It is an easy walk and the views of the mountains with the Mediterranean on the background are unforgettable. You can go out for a meal to discover the wine and flavours of Mallorcan cuisine. To round off the night you can attend a concert or any other evening show on the island. There are plenty of ways to have fun in Mallorca.
